Plain GROSS!

Our bodies are the only thing keeping us here on earth, so lets take care of them.  Let us together educate ourselves, our peers, and our kids on what is good and what is just GROSS!  I have come a crossed many articles lately about what is being put into our children’s lunches at school.  I have no children that attend public or private school, however, when they do I WILL MAKE THEIR LUNCH!  I understand their will be times when I will not be able to do so.  However, we can take a stand and try to stop this GROSS “Pink Slime” and other non traditional items go into our schools.  I do feel though that it is up to us as parents.  What ever happened to home cooked food, I guarantee if it were home cooked, it would save the school districts thousands of dollars a year.

However, it’s not just in the schools.  The “Pink Slime” is being used in grocery stores to keep cost down when beef prices are rising.

Sign the petition to tell the USDA to STOP putting this in your mouth and the ones we love!

Easter Fun!

There is something that is just magical about Easter.  Maybe it is because all things seem to come alive, including my children.  I have always loved hosting holidays or other events, however….Easter was always special.  Something about having all the family together.  Attending church in our cute spring like outfits and eating all the delicious food.  Not to mention, Peter Cotton Tail hiding all the eggs and visiting us on Easter morning.  It just seems like there is a new-born happiness in the air.

Coloring easter eggs has always been a tradition since I was a little girl.  Every year I always seem to buy egg coloring kits and they never seem to work as well as they advertise.  So….some hints:

Start saving bottle caps.  Use these as stands for your easter eggs.

The best cooked egg-Add your eggs to a sauce pan.  Fill with cold water until the egg is covered.  Bring water to a boil, turn temp down to a simmer for 13 minutes for a hard-boiled egg.  Remove with a tongs and place back in an egg carton for cooling.

Just use food coloring.  Add them to some vinegar and dip your eggs.  They even have food coloring tablets now you can just drop in vinegar.

Normally, I would always want my eggs to be totally cooled before coloring.  However, I found this new technic I want to use this year on  Take a hard-boiled egg right out of the warm water (adult should do this) place on a stand and take some crayons and color the egg.  The wax will melt.  For extra texture, use some crayon shavings and sprinkle on the egg. For more tips on this go to

Now this is a Peter Cotton Tail friendly snack that my boys will just love!  You can get these plant pots at Michael’s or Wal-Mart for a dollar or less.  I would suggest putting a cut cucumber in the bottom of the pot.  This way when you fill it up with dip, you will have no drippings.  Place some carrots on top, or celery.

Now, who doesn’t want to stuff their checks like Mr. Peter Cotton Tail on Easter morning.  Try these with the kids.  You can have the cupcakes already done and just waiting to be “faced” by the kids.

When hiding your kids easter baskets, leave them a trail of jelly beans or their favorite candy that leads them to their basket.  Or maybe you want to string them to it through a maze of yarn.  One end on their hand when they wake up and the other end tied to the basket. However, make sure you entangle it throughout the whole house using the WHOLE ball of yarn:)  HEHE!  I can’t wait to do this to my boys when they are older, I may however just have to do it to my hubby! Or maybe you give them a Peter Cotton Tail map that leads them to their treasure.  Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it.  Enjoy your families, and remember to remember god.

Some things that can fool you

Everyone can stand to lose a few pounds, myself included.  I have been really trying hard in the past month and half to get back on a good health kick. Not a diet, rather a new life style. I have become apart of some great free online healthy websites.  Spark people and Fitday are two of them.  I came a crossed two articles I wanted to share with you guys on Five common Foods that are Ruining your Waist Line, and Smart Substitutions.   No matter what though, remember everything is fine in moderation.  I still splurge on the occasional glass of wine, diet beverage,  or chocolate brownie.  (Please, I ate almost a half of a row of brownies the other night).

Working out is great. Not only is it great for your health and shape of your body, it makes you feel better.  Even if you can’t find a whole half hour to work out, break it up into three ten minute work outs; with jump roping or a fast paced walk.  While brushing your teeth hop on one foot.  While watching TV do lunges or squats.  I have a pair of five-pound weights near by the couch. During commercials I will do some reps of some type of arm excersie.  ANYTHING HELPS!

Lets Drink up!

Now for all who know me, you are probably thinking I am  suggesting some type of alcohol beverage…..however, sadly I am not.  Rather, I am taking about something that is GOOD for you!

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook, Aimee Mallett.  I have been drinking lots of water as I have been wanting to lose some weight.  Giving up my Diet coke was like losing my left arm.  And as a mom, we know that are arms are pretty important.  However, after about 4 glass of water, I am sick of it.  Here is some benefits of adding lemon to your water.

    • It helps prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria and the decomposition of tissue
  • It assists in “cleansing the system of impurities” and will help prevent disease
  • It is effective at dissolving uric acid (often the cause of pain and inflammation in joints) and other poisons in the body
  • It can help reduce symptoms of malaria, rheumatism, gout, rickets and tuberculosis.
  • And I may add, it adds way more flavor to just plan water.

Now….I read this from Mayo Clinic. I am totally blaming these extra 25 pounds I carry around (after I just lost  15 plus) to drinking diet soda.  Not eating Chipolte, splurging on chips, or eating more than my helping of portions:)  Rather, its just plan easy to blame something else rather than yourself, right?  However, I will still drink my diet soda….there is no link to cancer with it anyway so that is a plus for me.  So drink up kids, drink up.

Chicken for DinDin!

This Chicken was so nummy.  My husband and I could have eaten the whole tomato topping by itself. I served it along side a bed of brown rice and roasted veggies.

The roasted Veggies-

400 oven

Asparagus-Cut up

Yellow onions-Peeled and quartered

Roma Tomatoes-Seeded and halved

Toss them all in a bowl with salt, pepper, and olive oil.  Add to a cookie sheet and place in oven for 35-40 mins.  Make up your own….add any veggies you want. Healthy and oh so NUMMY!  I have added garlic and balsamic vinegar before too.

Two Mustard Chicken-

It a plastic bag or bowl marinate four chicken breast with equal parts Dijon mustard and honey mustard.  Sea Salt, Pepper, and fresh garlic.  I marinate mine over night.  If you take a fork and poke it through chicken you will find it gets the marinade to fall inside the chicken:)  After marinading place chicken on the grill until cooked through.  (Now you guys, I am NO chef…really!  So I don’t know the right temperatures, if you want that check out Food network or something and not my blog:)  If it is cold out…like winter or something like it is so often everywhere I have lived, you can use the oven.  I like a little crisp on my chicken.  So through your two mustard chicken in a hot pan.  A minute on each side, just enough to coat with a golden brown fry.  Place in a 13×9 cake pan and add the rest of the marinade on top.  Cook in oven at 375 for 30-35 mins.  Always cut in thickest part to make sure it is done. I have served raw chicken before….lets just say you DON’T want to do that.

Serve with some rice or my new FAVORITE find.  Steamers in a bag by Green Giant.  So good.  A healthy salad is always good too.

My Valentine’s plans…what are yours?

Tonight it is all about the love.  I am bringing in this years Valentine’s mommy style.

Homemade Chicken Alfredo

Caesar Salad

Homemade Garlic Cheese bread

Homemade Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

All of this will be served by Me, aka Mommy over a candle lit dinner for five.  Six if you want to count Elvis.  I have fake wine glasses for the boys and REAL stuff for mom and dad.

After all that, we are going to snuggle up in a comfy bed made of pillows on the floor and watch a Valentine ChipMunk movie.  Maybe some popcorn is in order?!??!

Valentines or what other’s like to call the Hallmark holiday is a day I enjoy.  It is a day to remind us all of ALL of our loved ones.  Have a happy loved Valentines day!
